Love digital art. Alberto Cerriteño’s pieces were amazing!

The first three suck IMO, too digital and obnoxiously neon.

Last one was my favorite because they don’t look like he made them on the computer.

Rule # 1 for graphic design to be effective make your point clear
Rule # 2 Illustrator is a great tool when used wisely
Rule # 3 Clutter detracts from the message

I applaud these artists as creative minds, and artists but graphic design is different….it is using artistic, creative talents to send a clear marketing message. I only see 2 illustrations that actually do this.

Guns? Meat Socks? Photoshop cut and paste? This is considered “great” work?… I’ve seen better work drawn on a napkin.

Some of these pictures are definitely mind-blowing, like the sinister dead mickey mouse picture set. But most of them are just mediocre.

I’m with Meredith on this one. These are great illustrations and photo manipulations, but I only see a couple of pieces that somewhat do what graphic design does: communicate.

  • Adam - 17/04/10 - Reply

Some of the people leaving comments need to get over themselves. This post was more about pushing boundaries than “communicating”. And about that, it is impossible not to communicate. You will communicate something no matter what you do. So that premise is an automatic fail to begin with.

I think some of they are good, and we can learn a litle bit with all! why dont you left the link to your folio mrs haters maybe we all learn something (or not at all), Lol. Hate frustreted people that are allways criticize everything.

Graphic Design is communication. This is more like art. Although it is amazing, not Graphic Design.

  • Nate - 22/05/10 - Reply

As you can see by the comments, some graphic designers who have no talent for illustration or heavy graphic manipulation are hyper-sensitive about the notion that it be considered “great design” because, well, let’s face it, it’s threatening.

Someone here also said this is more “art” than graphic design… well, as Paul Rand said, anything can be graphic and if it is graphic it has form and that form is already design; content is form, graphic design IS art. It’s art, that’s what it is.

Hear him say it himself right here:

Unless you don’t think Paul Rand knows what he’s talking about. Yeah. Maybe he’s just “mediocre,” too.

These people are showing off their skill and creativity. I’m sure they could lay out words on a page for you, too.

you and your excuses are lame, just to clearify your mind, this are illustrations, theres a difference
between graphic design, which has a porpuse, citing Rand here is lame, since makes no point, art is subjective, design has a message intended.

quit the intellectual bullshit, citing people or that some others are jealous.
Illustration and Graphic Design are not the same, theres even schools for each of the two carrers, is such a stupid mannouver to bitch about something like your comment.

so read more and think before you speak, you leave yourself weak and dumb…

BTW got a carrer as graphic designer and a post-grade on illustration …. believe it or not,
so i know what im talking about

Lots of different styles put together. I likes it. Some of these pictures are definitely mind-blowing, like the sinister dead mickey mouse picture set. But most of them are just mediocre. Still, thumbs up for the collection as a whole.
