I’m going to publish every week some posts about the “web design trends” for the next year.
This time we’ll see something about the “call-to-action” buttons.

Enjoy and let me know your thoughts!

Bigger Is Better (and choose contrasting colors!)

Big is “beautiful”, Big is “web 2.0″, Big is “visible”.
Increase the size of your main buttons and place them on a good position.
Use some bright colors, try a nice gradient.

Choose the right position

A good position is fundamental.
Better if you can insert an important button on the top of your page.
Place your logo on the left and on the button on the right (in western culture we read from left to right and from top to bottom)

…but you can still try to move it on the absolute center, after the header:

Be consistent with your style

It’s pretty easy to understand. Follow a style.
Give your users the chance to recognize immediately where to “click”.

Space

Insert some dead space around your main buttons.
Move them in an outstanding position. An important “call to action” button always needs space.

Make it different

Try to use some custom shapes or some cool vectors close or over the button to draw the user’s attention to the focus area.
