Nice…!!!!!! great screnshoots!!!
Wow…a total flashback! I’m a relatively new Mac user, only coming to the party with OS 6! LOL
The dating for Systems 2.0 and 3.0 is… er, questionable.
great archive :D i cant believe the first ones ahah :D thanks for sharing :D
Woulded be nice to see what was the look of Windows in the same year… :)
Stay Tuned ;)
You should include the Commodore Amiga, at least until their demise, around ’93, if memory serves me well…
You should have had Nextstep versions alongside mac os versions from system 6 on. The major OSes from NeXT were: Nextstep 3.3, Openstep 4.0, 4.5, then it was Rhapsody, then Mac OS X Server, then Mac OS X, etc, etc.
Mac os x is a direct descendant of nextstep, many (most?) of the functions are even preceded by NS_ and the os is in many ways just a refinement of ideas originally taken shape in 1987 and 1988.
Beautiful pictures!
I just started with the latest OS 10.4 and now I’m using 10.6. I do also have a wonderful vintage Mac – a Macintosh Performa 5200 with OS 8. And even using the OS 8 system today makes me amazed and facinated. I do love every system of the Apple-machinery!
Wow. Less than 50% of your site’s fixed width design goes to the *actual content* here? This is painful. Skipped to the comment section, not bothering to read your content or ads which you obviously want to prioritize.
Well, i’m sorry to read this but it’s an “inspirational” blog (like a photoblog) and a redesign is coming soon (that will be much better).
If you like the topics…stay tuned, you will have a nice surpirse ;)
The interesting thing is the interface hasn’t really fundamentally changed in over 20 years.
I agree, that’s pretty interesting
So System 3.0 actually came out a year before 2.0? Why?
Just fixed it. Thanks!
if you’re interested in the history of apple’s operating systems check out this pdf http://osxbook.com/book/bonus/chapter1/
it’s written by amit singh, author of the great mac os x internals book
Mac OS 8.7 is, by far, the most attractive screenshot, and clearly reflects author’s ability to play with screenshots.
